Wildlife and Historic Childers

A fantastic day lies ahead, starting with our luxury coach collecting you from your accommodation and taking the Bruce Highway north through the old coal mining towns of Torbanlea and Howard to the beautiful Isis District, with its rich red soils and rolling hills of lush sugar cane plantations.

Visiting Ian Jenkins Downunder Reptile Park, see saltwater crocodiles feeding, together with a deadly snake show and reptile handling display. Wander through the vivarium, enjoying lizards, frogs, turtles and other unique Australian reptiles. This fully commentated experience will give an understanding about these fearsome creatures and their place in the enviroment.

Our tour winds it way into the "National Trust Town" of Childers, a picturesque village and storehouse of pioneer Queensland architecture. Time to relax and wander through the main street, featuring many old sandstone buildings of yesteryear, a military museum, a pharmacetical museum (museum entry - own expense) and the Palace Backpacker's Memorial building. Ample time for lunch (own expense) in one of the historic pubs, cafes or coffee houses.

Tour through a chequeboard of red and green fields as our journey traverses rich agricultural grounds to Apple Tree Creek. Visit Flying High Bird Habitat and experience the magic of this large avairy of over 2 acres and reaching seven metres in height with many different bird species, both native and exotic flying free in a natural habitat created especially for them.

There are over 2000 birds including 12 spectacular South American Macaws!. Returning to Hervey Bay, a quick stop is made en-route at the famous Peanut Van, with its amazing diversity of nuts and other goodies on offer.
