Departing Hervey Bay, our tour winds its way north via the old coal mining towns of Torbanlea and Howard and on through rolling, hills of rich red soil, surrounding the pretty sugar growing town of Childers.
Arriving in the "Rum City" of Bundaberg, our first stop is made at Alexandra Park, overlooking the Burnett River, here enjoy a delicious morning tea (included) and a stroll through the City Zoo, located within the gardens.
Moving across the city, observe modern architecture blending with charming historic buildings in the CBD, see the "Whaling Wall", towering above the main street shops. Next visit the new "Bundy Barrel" Ginger Beer Factory, here an informative walk through the interactive display will reveal the makings of this popular drink, with free tastings in the bar.Relax over a tasty lunch served in the restaraunt, located within the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens, with ample time to inspect the neighboring attractions, Bert Hinkler's former home, the historical museum and the Fairymead Sugar Museum. (musuems entry - own cost)
Continue on to the famous Bundaberg Rum Distillery for a fully guided tour of the factory, here also see an informative and entertaining video on Bundy Rum, as well as free tastings in the bar after the factory tour. Before commencing the return journey to Hervey Bay, our last stop is at Schmeider's Cooperage, here witness the age old art of rum barrel making.
PLEASE NOTE : Due to Work Place Health and Safety Requirements, Fully enclosed shoes must be worn during the factory tour at the Bundaberg Rum Distillery.
